Contextual Teaching
My belief about the purpose of education is to become aware of one’s own potential. As a subject teacher then I would make an effort to have the students be aware of themselves and their potential in math and in habits. I would do that by organizing the classroom eco system using multiple models of teaching and learning and then observe the students’ response to it. I would do that by using differentiation of content, product and process. So, the students would work using a variety of situations in order to stimulate their whole brain (Teachings inEducation, 2017).
The curriculum hence needs to be one that allows for such experimentation that is needed to come to the optimum level of eco system that allows all students to come to their optimum level of learning. This curriculum would be one that not only specifies what is to be taught, but also how it is to be integrated with developing skills and attitudes.
My teaching is very contextual (Haave, 2017). There is a continuous effort to connect with the class in order to bring a balance of challenge in an atmosphere of safety and love. So I create an environment using the four dimensions of thinking, feeling, moving and connect. The activities are a blend of stimulating the thinking, feelings of safety and openness to movement in the class. These could be collaborative learning, think pair share, use of art works or intense problem solving. All of this while making an effort to stay connected with that which is our core to that which is the core of the learners What you realize is that connection is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives, (Brown, 2020, 3.01) then that becomes the goal and the omega point!
