Increase 340 by 4% is same as 340 x 1.04
The longer way is 340 + 4% of 340
Which is nothing but 340 (1+ 4%) or 340 (1.04)!

Decrease 340 by 4% is same as 340 x 96
The longer way is 340 – 4% of 340
Which is nothing but 340(1-4%) or 340 x 0.96!
